Slight change of plans...

So about that beach vacation...

Turns out it won't be a beach vacation in the slightest.  Instead, we'll be celebrating...

... Christmas in Paris!

{Okay, so maybe it won't be quite Christmas, but it will be December, and I'm told most of the Christmas stuff should be up by then!}

We went back and forth about it, but in the end I we decided that this might be the perfect time for us to get over to Europe together before Hargrave # 3 arrives.  After my trip to London this past May (which you can read about here, here, and here), I fell in love with the magic and wonder that comes from getting lost in a beautiful, historical city.  The beach will make a perfect family vacation spot in the years to come, but I didn't want to miss the opportunity to see a city I've always dreamed of seeing.

And besides... Paris is always a good idea.

So we got the okay from my doctor, booked our flights, and found the perfect apartment to rent for the week.  (One of my precious friends from law school {shout out, Darby!}, who is my official travel guru, recommended that we look into renting an apartment rather than a hotel.  They're bigger, nicer, and in some cases cheaper than a mid-range hotel would be for the week.)  Now we just have to start planning a rough itinerary.  I'm not one to plan out every day, but I do want to make a list of must-sees and, more importantly, must-eats.

I think we'll try and do a day trip to Brussels (hello, Belgian waffles, chocolate, and beer {for Micah}), and one to Versailles.  That will leave us five whole days to explore the magic of Paris and eat to our hearts' content.

So if you've been there and have ideas for things we absolutely must do, leave a comment and hook a girl up, would you? :)

Agh I am so excited for your trip!! How far along will you be when you go? I guess I am just nervous to travel while pregnant...I can't even think about being uncomfortable on a plane. But I can live vicariously through you!! :) Can't wait to hear about it!

I'm so excited for you!! Christmas in Pairs sounds amazing! I can't wait to read all about your trip. My husband and I want to plan a spring trip to Europe and I've never been to Paris, so I would love your recommendations!

My dream, perhaps, is to wander the open markets and haul all that fresh food back to a rented apartment and cook all day.
Sounds like a lovely trip! (Dress warm. It ain't Texas!)

Ah Paris! So exciting! If Museums are your thing, go to the Musee d'Orsay (all impressionism), The Louvre is amazing and huge and iconic and absolutely worth a visit, but the pieces as the d'Orsay took my breath away. In the city (near Notre Dame, I think) Sainte-Chapelle is one of the most gorgeous chapels I've ever been in (best on a sunny-mostly sunny day). I abhor Montmarte, but the views of Paris once you get to the Sacre Couer are unbeatable. And I think it's impossible to have bad food in Paris!

OMG we went to Paris for a week after my hubby came back from Iraq and it was by FAR the most amazing trip we've ever been on!!!!! Definitely go to Versailles, but make sure you don't go on Sunday (may want to double check me on that day just to be sure) b/c they don't run the fountains that particular day. It was still gorgeous, but we had no idea and were still sad the fountains weren't on. Feel free to message or email me if you want to know anything else! It's been a while since we've been, but I'll do my best to help!! I can tell you all the things we did when we there and where we loved going!!
