Cold...

If you live in a part of the country where you have to deal with actual  inclement weather in the winter, I feel sure you think all of us down here in Texas are total wimps.  Because 'round these parts, we shut the whole metroplex down when there's a teensy bit of ice on the roads.

After I finally got off the plane in Dallas on Thursday afternoon (after delays in both Charleston and on the tarmac in Dallas), I did my best to navigate all the insane drivers who, in anticipation of Iceageddon 2013, had to rush around buying all of the bread and milk and eggs and blankets at rush hour and prolong what had already been a very exhausting trip home.

But after two hours (my commute is normally 25-30 minutes) I finally made it home just in time to put Gracie to bed (after not seeing her for three whole days, I couldn't get enough of her sweet little face!).  And then we did, indeed, get a dusting of sleet/freezing rain (some parts of the area got a fair amount of snow) and a whole lot of icy roads that night.  So most of the schools and businesses shut down, and my sweet little family had a day of cuddles and PJs.

Thankfully we didn't lose power like many others did after the poor, wimpy Texas trees buckled under the weight of the ice and knocked down the power lines.  We did miss my firm's Christmas party (which is usually a ridiculously fun spectacle of extravagance), but I really just didn't want to be out on the roads at night.

We mostly just continued the cuddling on Saturday and Sunday, although we did have to venture out for food a few times, which was nice.  I was getting a little stir-crazy...

Oh, and can we talk about what else happened this weekend?

Um, yes.

I sat her down in her crib just for a second while I gathered up her clothes for the day and picked up her room a bit and turned around to this.  I about had a heart attack.  Looks like we will be lowering the crib just as soon as possible...

So things are still unusually cold here, but everything seems to be thawing out for the most part.  Hope you guys are all staying warm and enjoying this incredible time of the year!

Those pigtails kill me. Glad you TX wimps are all safe and warm. We're experiencing much the same up here in ID.

Oh no!!! I hope she didn't try to climb out yet! That was the scariest thing for me, waking up for the sound of my child crawling in my room - when she should be in her crib!

We luckily didn't get any ice down in Houston, but the weather has definitely been miserable. Glad you made it back home safe, and in time see that sweet baby girl!
